Our Mission

The mission of the Sullivan County Imagination Library is to develop the love of reading in all children in this county by providing an age-appropriate book each month to every child from birth to five years. Recent letter from a parent:

When my son became old enough to understand the process of mail and that he was receiving mail, the trips to the mailbox took on added excitement! My son has looked forward to opening the mailbox to discover a new adventure…all wrapped up in a book!

Our Vision

“Imagine” the benefits to children and to society, if all kindergarteners arrived at school ready to learn!

Eligibility

  1. All children between birth and five years of age are eligible to receive the free books, without regard to family income, as long as there is a local Imagination Library affiliate in their county. The Sullivan County Imagination Library (SCIL) is the affiliate for Sullivan County, Tennessee. This includes all cities and towns in the county, such as Kingsport, Bristol, Piney Flats, Blountville, and Bluff City.
  2. In order to receive the free books, parents/guardians must register their child with the local affiliate.
  3. Children receive an age-appropriate book of their very own in the mail each month until they reach five years of age—sixty books in all if signed up at birth.
